Legal & Privacy
I provide counselling services as a qualified counsellor holding a Diploma in Counselling. I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, or registered psychotherapist.
My services are therapeutic counselling, not medical or psychological treatment.
I am a practicing solicitor at Dwellaw and also provide counselling services. These are completely separate professional practices.
Counselling sessions are protected by therapeutic confidentiality, not legal professional privilege.
I do not provide legal advice or services through my counselling practice.
I do not provide counselling to current or former legal clients to maintain clear professional boundaries.
Your sessions are confidential. What you share in counselling stays between us, with the following legal exceptions where I am required by law to break confidentiality:
• There is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or another person
• There is disclosure of child abuse or neglect
• I receive a court order or subpoena requiring disclosure
• Required by other legal obligations
If any of these situations arise, I will discuss this with you first where possible and safe to do so.
By booking a session, you acknowledge that:
• You understand I am a counsellor, not a psychologist or psychiatrist
• Counselling is a voluntary process
• You have the right to end counselling at any time
• Counselling is a collaborative process and progress depends on your active engagement
• Counselling involves exploring difficult emotions and experiences, which can sometimes feel uncomfortable
Contact details (name, email, phone number), session notes for continuity of care, and payment information processed through secure payment systems.
To provide counselling services, maintain clinical records, contact you regarding appointments, and process payments.
I store client information securely and take reasonable steps to protect your privacy. Session notes are kept in encrypted digital format or secure physical storage.
I retain clinical records for 7 years from the last session, as required by professional standards.
• Access your clinical records (with reasonable notice)
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your information (subject to legal record-keeping requirements)
Current fees are listed on the homepage and may be reviewed from time to time. Payment is required before the scheduled session.
